About Riverock™
Riverock ™ is a decorative concrete overlay and has been in business since 1982. It consists of natural stone mixed with a specially formulated two-part epoxy which is then hand troweled onto your surface. Riverock ™ is installed over existing concrete surfaces, including pool decks, porches, sidewalks, staircases, garage and basement floors-offering an excellent alternative to tearing out and replacing existing concrete that is unsightly and worn. Riverock ™ is porous so water passes through it, and has a high degree of surface slip-resistance as well, making for a safe walking surface for you, your family and guests.
How Long Does Riverock™ Last?
Riverock ™ has been in business since 1982 – we have many installations that are over twenty years old, and some that are 30 years or more old. The longevity of your Riverock ™ depends on three factors: the degree of sun exposure, maintenance, and the underlying concrete. Installations that are inside or under a roof or porch overhang get very little exposure to UV rays, which over time compromises the epoxy bond-these tend to last the longest. Installations that are in direct sunlight most of the time can last 20 or more years as well but need more frequent maintenance. Riverock ™’s structural integrity is dependent on the integrity of the concrete beneath, so if you have movement of the concrete, the Riverock will move as well. Fortunately, we can easily patch areas where the stone has cracked. We are happy to discuss what to expect based on your specific project.
Maintenance and Upkeep for Riverock™
We have a standard maintenance service which we refer to as a “Wash and Coat”. This involves us power washing and vacuuming (in some cases), followed by a re-coat of epoxy to restore the shine and integrity of your Riverock ™. We also include standard repairs in the price of the service. Installations in direct sunlight may need service every 3 or 4 years, while inside installations may only need service after 15 years or more. You can save money on service by performing the power-washing yourself and having us re-glaze and repair. We are happy to offer you advice on how to best clean your Riverock ™. At this time we do not sell epoxy, but can direct you to a vendor who does if you wish to do all the maintenance yourself.
"Wash & Coat" Tips
- Trim back shrubs and grass so that we can access as much of your patio/pool/porch/sidewalk as possible. If you have soil that is above the level of the surface, try and cut that back as well.
- Please remember to turn off any zones of a sprinkler system that will hit your Riverock ™ during the coat phase- it must be dry for us to coat/repair.
- Please remove heavy items on your porch prior to our arrival- we are happy to move items that one man can handle for you. We can frequently accommodate removal of heavier items as well with prior arrangements.
- Avoid the use of rubber backed mats as they discolor the Riverock. Woven mats are preferred.
